Guns don’t kill people, toddlers kill people …

This post is pretty silly, so I encourage you to drop by and post a reasonable, rational comment.

I don’t know how many times something like this has to happen before people learn their lesson. Our society is plagued by guns, yet the government does nothing to try to cure the problem.

My response in her comment section:

Our society is plagued by toddlers. How many people have to die before we do something?! Did those people have a license for that toddler? It was probably one of those assault toddlers that can fire up to five rounds in a single second. It was probably even the toddler of choice for criminals and terrorists. Now did any of those comments sound ridiculous to you? They should have. I was using the same twisted logic that gun control advocates use when they're trying to get the legislature to "do something." The comments were ridiculous because GUNS are not the problem. TODDLERS are not the problem. PERSONAL IRRESPONSIBILITY is the problem and PERSONAL IRRESPONSIBILITY can NOT be legislated. Stop trying to take away my rights because of someone else's utter stupidity! Your sad misidentification of "the problem" (and subsequent suggestion for a "cure") illustrates the one negative aspect of the First Amendment: anyone can say anything they want - no matter how wrong it is. Well, the negative aspect of the Second Amendment is that sometimes people are irresponsible and abuse it. That's not a reason to take the right away. Rights are too precious to sacrifice in the heat of the moment. Funny to me how everyone gets all up in a flutter about 1st or 4th Amendment violations. An NSA phone call data base? "SAVE OUR RIGHTS! STOP BIG BROTHER NOW!" But when it comes to the 2nd Amendment...well then it's time to "do something."
